How to prepare for your first day of Sailing:
What to Bring:
Coast Guard approved life jacket (we have some available to borrow, if necessary)
Water bottle
Closed-toed shoes
Weather appropriate clothes that can get wet
Note: Avoid heavy cotton sweatshirts in chilly weather. When waterlogged, cotton gets very cold! Assume that it feels 5-10 degrees colder on the water than at home.
Hats, towels, sweat shirts, raincoats (if necessary), and extra sunscreen.
Sailors are welcome to bring helmets to mitigate worries of head injuries, but they are not required.
What to Leave at Home:
Snacks. Some sailors have food allergies, so please eat before you arrive!
Electronics and water are not friends so we ask that all phones and games stay safely in a bag, or at home
Drop off/Pick Up:
Be prepared for a quick drop off! Putting sunscreen on at home and having a prepared bag will speed up the process.
Please do not park in our drop off circle! Park in designated parking spots.
In the event of inclement weather, we may have to cancel or shorten a class. We will send an email and call the emergency contact(s) provided to let you know.
Sailors under 11 years old will be checked out at the end of class, so please let us know who will be picking them up, and be prepared to initial. Sailors over 12 may leave unattended with written permission. Send to contact@hinghammaritime.org
